GRANVILLE, Ohio - November 4, 2023 - Chatham Squash started the 2023-24 season off on the right foot, securing a win in both matches against Dension at the Dension Squash Courts on Saturday. Both the Men and Women start 1-0 for the second year in a row.
The Women dominated the Big Red 9-0, including seven sweeps and a win by default in the nine-seed matchup. Sophomore
Sofia Pinto (11-5, 11-1, 11-3) and senior
Sofia Ramos Fortanelli (11-0, 11-5, 11-1) each held their opponent to single digits in total points on their way to 3-0 victories, while sophomore
Vasundhra Vasanthan held her opponent to just three points in the four-seed matchup (11-1, 11-2, 11-0). Freshman
Clara Braga earned a sweep in her collegiate debut (11-3, 11-4, 11-5).
The Men took a 7-2 win, earning four sweeps in the process from sophomore
Sebastian Antonio Vaca Sanchez (11-6, 11-8, 11-4), sophomore
Muhammad Hassaan Raza (11-9, 11-4, 11-4), junior
Haidar Jafry (11-5, 11-8, 11-7) and sophomore
Alejandro Cruz (11-6, 11-3, 11-3).
Squash will return to action next weekend when they take on Haverford, Penn and Drexel in an in-season round robin hosted by Penn.
