Women's Ice Hockey Opens Season with Draw at Buffalo State

Box Score BUFFALO, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2023) - The Cougars started the year with a draw in a nonconference matchup against Buffalo State (1-1-1). In game one of two for the weekend matchup against the Bengals, Chatham scored two goals in the tie. 

After a scoreless first period that saw the shot total favor Buffalo State 11-4, Chatham would light the lamp first at the 6:43 mark of the second period. On a power play, senior Abi Fuzaylov found the back of the net with help from fifth-year Brooke Almond and senior Ally Nolan

The Cougars held onto the 1-0 lead until early in the final period of regulation when the Bengals got their first goal. About halfway through the third, the Cougars gained a 2-1 lead with a score by Almond off of assists from Nolan and junior Samantha Barrett. Chatham seemed to have the game in their gloves, but with 46 seconds left in the game, Buffalo State converted on a power-play to force overtime. 

In the extra period, the Purple and Gray got off two shots to the Bengals' four. The game would end in a draw, leading to Chatham starting the year at 0-0-1. 

In the circle, senior Cameron Carmody had a game-high 8 face-off wins. Barrett had a team-high 2 blocks in front of sophomore Samantha Brophy, who made a match-high 29 saves. 

The Cougars will stay in Buffalo for game two tomorrow against the Bengals at 3 p.m.
