GREENVILLE, Pa. - October 7, 2023 - Chatham Men's Soccer came from behind 2-1 to beat the Thiel Tomcats (1-10-2, 0-5-1) by the score of 4-2 on Saturday at Alumni Stadium. The Cougars third straight victory has them at 4-7-2 on the year and 3-2-1 in conference.
Chatham jumped out to a lead in the seventh minute when
Azavier Coppin spun his defender around with a slick cutback move and found the top corner of the net. The goal was assisted by freshman
Justin Knox. Coppin now has 10 goals on the season, which is one shy of tying the program record for goals in a season set by Ryan Tahbaz in 2021.The Tomcats answered in the 32nd minute to tie the game at 1-1 and took a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute. About 20 minutes into the second half, the Cougars knotted the game back up when freshman
Anthony Holter took a shot from the corner of the box and placed it beautifully into the corner of the net for his third goal of the season. Then, in the 80th minute, it was Knox who took the feed from Holter in the middle of the field and buried an off-balance shot to give Chatham the 3-2 lead. That lead grew to 4-2 when sophomore
Sam Schoensee struck a free kick that the Tomcat goalkeeper couldn't stop.
Shots on goal were 6-5 in favor of Chatham, and the Cougars took all three of the match's corner kicks.
Men's Soccer returns to the field Wednesday when they host the Franciscan Barons.
