PITTSBURGH, Pa. - October 14, 2023 - Chatham Swimming and Diving opened its season Saturday afternoon at the Sigo Falk Nataorium with a meet against the Hiram Terriers. The Cougar Men took a 190-45 loss while the Women fell narrowly 130.5-128.5.
Chatham won a total of 12 events, with freshman
Siera Schmitt putting together an impressive day in her collegiate debut to contribute to four of them. Schmitt won the 200-yard freestyle (2:17.84), 100-yard breaststroke (1:19.31), 200-yard IM (2:37.57), and contributed to winning the 200-yard medley relay (2:08.30) alongside senior
Abigail Glasspool, junior
Lexi Ray and sophomore
Hannah Kane.
For the Men, freshman
Caleb Trainum also enjoyed a successful debut with a win in the 50-yard butterfly and a mark of 58.67 in the 100-yard butterfly that earned him the win and set a new Chatham record.

Ali Cowan posted an 11-dive score of 441.15 on one-meter, which provisionally qualifies her for NCAA regionals.
Swimming and Diving will return to action in two weeks when they head to West Virginia for a tri-meet against Bethany and Wheeling.
