PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 2, 2022 - Chatham Softball hosted Bethany this afternoon in a conference double-header, the first of the 2022 season. The first game would end 10-2 in favor of the Bison; game two would follow in similar fashion with a 4-1 final.
Chatham would get on the board first in game one, with junior Kaitlyn Collins making the one-base jog to home after drilling a triple down the left-field line.
The Bison would unfortunately have success of their own at the plate, scoring nine of their eventual ten runs in the process. The Cougars' second and final run of the game would come in the third with a speedy Paige Shaftic advancing from a stolen base and two sacrifice flies from Lauren Haak and Mackenzie Dunn.
Game two would go four full innings without a single run for either team, several of which were three up, three down. In the fifth, Bethany would find outfield gaps to get on base and consequently score four runs.
Bottom six saw a single from Mackenzie Dunn which was quickly followed by a single from Collins. Dunn would stretch the single to make it all the way home for the Cougars' only run of game two.
On the mound, Emily Nay threw two strikeouts while keeping the Bethany lineup frustrated with their inability to make good contact.
The Cougars stand at 0-2 in conference and 5-11 overall. Their next matchup is Monday, April 4th at La Roche University.
