Men’s Basketball Falls in Seesaw PAC Championship

WASHINGTON, Pa. – February 26, 2022 – It was an electric atmosphere in front of a standing room only crowd at Washington & Jefferson. Despite the Cougars having a strong start to the championship game, they fell to top-seeded Washington & Jefferson 68-63.

The Cougars got off to a strong start after embarking on a 9-2 run to begin the game. Chatham never trailed in the first half and held a 38-32 lead at the break thanks to a strong shooting performance, going 47% from the field including a quartet of threes.

The second half started well for the Cougars, but ultimately sold shooting would spell the end late. Chatham finished the second half shooting just 30% from the floor and ended up squandering the six-point halftime lead. W&J took the lead late thanks to a couple of key threes in the waning minutes and built up a two-possession lead to secure the win.

For the game, the Cougars shot 39% from the floor and had a near identical shooting line to the hosting Presidents. Chatham was led by the duo of sophomore Simon Boyer and senior Malik Potter, who scored 15 points each. Both of them were named to the PAC All-Tournament Team. Senior Ben Pollock had a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two blocks. First-year Blaine Gartley also had 10 rebounds and four steals.

Chatham's final record dips to 21-5 overall and 14-4 in PAC play.
