GREENVILLE, Pa. (pacathletics.org)--Washington & Jefferson College, Chatham University, Westminster College and Waynesburg University scored quarterfinal wins in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Men's Basketball Championship Tournament Tuesday night and will move on to the semifinals Thursday.
Top-seeded W&J (22-4) earned a 90-72 victory over No. 8 Grove City College (10-16) at the Salvitti Family Gymnasium in Washington while second-seeded Chatham (20-4) earned an 88-73 win over No. 7 Franciscan University (10-16) at the Athletics and Fitness Center in Pittsburgh. Third-seeded Westminster (17-8) held off No. 6 Thiel College (8-16) for a 68-66 win at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington while No. 5 Waynesburg (14-12) posted a 60-59 victory over No. 4 Geneva College (14-10) at Metheny Fieldhouse in Beaver Falls.
In Thursday's semifinal round, No. 1 W&J will host No. 5 Waynesburg while No. 2 Chatham will host No. 3 Westminster. The W&J-Waynesburg game will tip off at 8 p.m. The Chatham-Westminster game will get underway at 7 p.m.
Saturday's title game will be hosted by the higher seed remaining following Thursday's semifinals.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. PAC and institutional passes are not accepted at PAC Championship events. Students from host institutions will be admitted for free with a valid college ID.
The winner of the PAC's Championship Tournament will receive the league's automatic qualifying bid to this year's Division III Championship Tournament. Forty-four conferences have been granted automatic qualification to this year's 64-team championship. The selected Division III Championship teams as well as the first and second round site selections will be announced Monday, February 28 on ncaa.com. First and second round games are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 4-5.
