Women’s Hockey Falls to #18 Aurora on the Road

AURORA, IL - October 29, 2022 - Chatham Women's Hockey opened their season this evening with a non-conference matchup against Aurora University. Aurora would go on to win 5-1 on home ice.

The Spartans would open up the game with a quick goal just 25 seconds in, followed by another near the halfway point of the first period.

Chatham, however, would strike back shortly after, thanks to a goal from senior Brooke Almond who one-timed a pass from junior Allison Corser-James through the five-hole. Almond's goal would be the Cougars' only score for the night.

Aurora would score two more goals in the first before going scoreless in the second, being kept at bay by junior goaltender Lilly Rogers, who stopped all 16 second period shots faced.

The Spartans would score twice more in the third.

Leading the Cougars offensively was junior Lauren Carmody with four shots on goal, followed by classmates Cameron Carmody and Allison Corser-James with three apiece.

Cameron Carmody would also win a team-high 12 draws in the circle.

Defensively, Rogers would end her season-opening campaign with 42 saves. Senior defenseman Dena Akers registered five blocks, followed by junior Ariel Garbin with four in aid of Rogers.

The Cougars get another go at the Spartans tomorrow, October 30th, at 2 PM eastern, 1 PM central.
