PITTSBURGH, Pa. – January 2, 2022 – The Chatham men's hockey team entered 2022 with a two-game winning streak, a run that was halted by the visiting Trine Thunder by a 6-0 final score on Sunday. The loss drops Chatham's record to 3-6-2.
The Cougars were on the defensive throughout most of the contest, giving up a plethora of shots in the first period which set up the first goal with 4:44 to play. Things quickly escalated in the second when four Thunder goals crossed the red line in a span of about 10 minutes, making the score 5-0. The last goal all but solidified a 6-0 win for the visitors.
Chatham was doubled up on shots on goal 42-21 and lost the faceoff battle 32-27. A bright spot was the penalty kill, where Chatham successfully killed off four Trine power plays. Senior goaltender
Ricardo Gonzalez made 36 saves in defeat.
Chatham continues its non-conference trek on Tuesday, January 4 when it heads to Buffalo State to face the Bengals for a 4:00 puck drop.
