PITTSBURGH, Pa. - September 7, 2021 - Chatham Volleyball hosted Pitt-Greensburg this evening in their season opening match at home. Despite a rocky first set, the Cougars bounced back to send the Panthers back to Greensburg 0-3 on the night.
Chatham struck first in the first set, with junior Rylee Ritko securing Chatham's first official kill of the season with an assist to classmate Shaelah Pepperman.
The set was back and forth for both teams with additional kills from first-year Kaley Davis and graduate student Macy King and several service aces from sophomore Amelia Bogovich.
At 17 all, Pitt Greensburg pulled ahead by four. A timeout called by Head Coach Joe Bortak would prove successful, as the Cougars battled back for eight unanswered points to take the first set 25-21.
The Cougars carried that momentum into set two, putting the Panthers down by a whopping nine points behind the serves of Bogovich. The Panthers were unable to recover as the Cougars continued to pour on the hard hits, seeing kills from Ritko, King, Davis, sophomore Baileigh Horan, and senior Emily Richie.
Pitt Greensburg would only accrue 20 total points between the second and third sets, racking up 12 errors on the evening in response to Chatham's overpowering offense.
Junior Rylee Ritko led the Cougars in kills with 10, followed by first-year Kaley Davis and graduate Macy King with eight and five respectively. Amelia Bogovich tallied six aces with Ritko and sophomore Meghan Domenik adding three each. Junior Shaelah Pepperman was active on the court, helping the Cougar offense with a game-high 23 assists.
The Cougars are back in action on Thursday, September 9th at 7 PM when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
