PITTSBURGH, Pa. - September 15, 2021 - Chatham Volleyball hosted Penn State Altoona this evening after a 1-1 conference weekend. Despite going up 2-0, the Cougars ultimately lost 3-2.
The first set was marked by a back-and-forth scoring pattern, with Chatham taking the lead first. It would take until the Cougars' 17th point for them to pull ahead permanently, thanks to the service of Kaley Davis and a kill from Emily Richie. The final point of set one would come from a Rylee Ritko kill, allowing the Cougars to settle into set two.
In set two, the Cougars would successfully battle back from several five-plus point deficits, with Amelia Bogovich serving for eight straight points to get the Cougars ahead 17-16. When the Lions eventually pulled ahead to a 24-22 lead, the Cougars took control of the court with two straight kills from Richie with assists to Shaelah Pepperman, followed by a kill from Pepperman herself and one more from Richie to end the set with 26 Cougar points.
Set three began with seven straight Lion points. The Cougars managed to obtain three before the Lions poured on four more to make the score 11-3.
After scattered point runs for the home team, Amelia Bogovich was subbed in at just the right time to catch up to Altoona's 12 points. Bogovich served for seven straight points this time, seeing kills from Paige Bogozi and Macy King. Altoona would eventually pull ahead to end the set.
Altoona maintained their lead throughout sets four and five, after which Chatham was unable to catch up.
Of Chatham's 47 kills on the night, Emily Richie, Paige Bogozi, and Kaley Davis contributed 14, 12, and 11 respectively. Shaelah Pepperman tallied 39 assists and liber Meghan Dominek led the Cougars with 20 digs.
The Cougars return to action on Friday, September 17th in a doubleheader against La Roche University and Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.
