PITTSBURGH, Pa. - April 5, 2021 - Chatham Women's Soccer hosted Grove City in a rematch of the 2019 PAC Championship. Both teams were undefeated going into the game. After 74 scoreless minutes, the Wolverines scored to give the Cougars their first loss of the season.
The first half was a defensive draw with neither team scoring. Grove City outshot Chatham 7-3 on net, with sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Colburn stopping all seven. Chatham's three shots were supplied by sophomore Cassidy Martin and juniors Morgan Anderson and Paxton Steffy.
Chatham adjusted their play to ward off Grove City's talented offensive force, racking up three fouls in the half.
Grove City's Gianna D'Amato struck in the 74th minute to set the Cougars back. Chatham responded by ramping up their offense, seeing shots on goal from Emily Martz, Kylie Redcay, Steffy and Martin. First-year Malia Hinton came close for the Cougars with a shot off the post.
The Cougars finished the game with four corner kicks, eight shots on goal, and just one goal against. Tyler Colburn made a season-high ten saves in goal for Chatham.
Chatham has the opportunity to rebound with their next PAC contest on Friday, April 9th, against Westminster College. Kick-off is at 5 PM in New Wilmington, Pa.
