Early Scoring Not Enough to Push Cougars Past Knights

ASTON, Pa. - February 19, 2021 - Chatham Men's Hockey played against UCHC foe Neumann University this afternoon in their second conference game of the season. Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Cougars ultimately fell to the Knights 4-2.

The game started in favor of Chatham with Neumann taking two penalties, including a five-minute major and game misconduct. The Cougars capitalized on the 5-on-3 advantage with sophomore Tristan Hillebert scoring the first power play goal of the season, assisted by senior Cory King and sophomore newcomer Aidan Girduckis.

Neumann struck back on their own power play opportunity late in the period, tying the game after one period of play.

Neumann dominated the offensive action in the second period, scoring two goals to start and finish the period. Chatham was shorthanded for four minutes, giving Neumann the opportunity for more net-front presence.

The Cougars battled back in the third, ultimately tying the period. Senior Niko Moulakelis scored his second goal of both the season and weekend, giving sophomore Matt Mood his first assist of the year.

The Knights fired a game-high 17 shots at junior Ricardo Gonzalez in the third period, being denied 16 times. Gonzalez logged 37 saves, aided by numerous blocks from sophomores Blake Halfpenny and Aidan Girduckis, junior Michael Lamison, and senior Noah Medalsy.

Chatham now stands at 1-1 in the UCHC and 1-3 overall. Their next game is Thursday, February 25th against Stevenson at Frozen Pond Arena, followed by a road game against Utica on Saturday the 27th.
