Men’s Basketball Eclipses 100 For First Time Ever

LATROBE, Pa. – December 1, 2021 – The Chatham men's basketball team upped its win streak to six with an impressive offensive output at Saint Vincent Wednesday night, setting the program record for most points in a game with 100 and tying the most three-pointers made in a game with 19.

Chatham jumped out to an enormous 48-20 halftime lead thanks to timely shooting across the lineup. It shot 50% from the field as a team and buried 11 three-point shots. The defense limited the hosting Bearcats to just 25% from the floor with only one three made.

With the game's outcome all but inevitable, the scoring spree continued. There were 11 different Cougars who scored at least two points in the second half, as the shooting once again surpassed 50% at .514. The Cougars also were opportunistic from the free throw line in the second half, getting to the stripe nine times and cashing in eight times.

The 100 points marks the first time Chatham has ever reached the 100-point plateau, and it was a near-even 51-49 split amongst the starters and the bench. The team also won the turnover battle in convincing fashion, forcing 17 turnovers thanks in part to 11 steals and only turning the ball over a mere seven times.

Four Cougars scored in the double figures, with senior Malik Potter leading the way at 17 points. His trio of three-point shots put him in sole possession of second place in Cougar history in that category with 128. Sophomore Simon Boyer was close behind at 16 points, leading the team with a quartet of triples and a team-high nine rebounds. Seniors Nick Fiumara and Nick Bomar both had double-digit points with 11 and 10, respectively. Potter and first-year Blaine Gartley also had three steals.

Chatham faces a stiff road test on Saturday, December 4 at Beaver Falls when it takes on Geneva with a 3:00 tip.
