PITTSBURGH, Pa. – November 12, 2021 – The Chatham swimming teams were dealt a tough blow Friday evening, falling to Westminster in both halves of the swim meet. The women were defeated 173-117 while the men fell 224-45.
The women were able to scrap a win in the 200-yard freestyle thanks to the continuing stellar efforts of first-year
Amy Jarvis, who won with a final time of 2:04.42. Classmate and reigning PAC rookie of the week
Maddy Cisco continued her strong start with a dominating 1:03.21 final time to claim the 100-yard backstroke. Cisco also won the 100-yard freestyle convincingly at 56.33.
Chatham's best performance was in the 200-yard butterfly, as sophomore
Abigail Glasspool and junior
Carlee Shreve swiftly turned away Westminster's duo, with the former winning with a 2:34.86 final time and the latter finishing almost seven seconds ahead of the top Titan. Glasspool also emerged as the winner in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:07.27.
In the one-meter diving, first-year
Ali Cowan was able to squeak out a win with a final score of 219.60, just 8.60 points ahead of second place. She won more comfortably in the three-meter diving with a final score of 242.85.
The lone men's swimmer to record a win was the outstanding sophomore
Karl Gangloff, who dominated the 1,000-yard freestyle with a final 10:35.32 time and the 500-yard freestyle at 5:02.73.
Chatham now suits up for the three-day Oberlin Invitational, which begins Thursday, November 18 at 10 a.m.
