Cougars Drop Third Straight After Falling to Greensboro College 12-5

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Mar. 5, 2020 - Chatham (2-2, 0-0) was back on the field over spring break as they traveled to take on Greensboro College (2-3, 0-0) on Thursday, March 5th. The Cougars were coming off their worse loss of the season, stumbling to Shenandoah University 20-4 on Saturday, February 29th.

The game started slow for both teams, as neither opponent was able to find the back of the net in the opening minutes. Greensboro started to heat up in the final six minutes of the opening quarter, scoring three consecutive goals in just over a minute to take a 3-0 lead. Chatham was able to find themselves on the score board before the end of the quarter as they trailed Greensboro 4-1 going into the second.

Greensboro tacked on four more goals in the second quarter giving them an 8-1 lead with 6:35 left in the half. As the final seconds of the opening half waned off the clock, sophomore Nick Guaglione scored his lone goal on the day, giving Chatham their second score of the game.

The Cougars continued to struggle offensively in the second half, scoring only three goals in the final two quarters of the match. Greensboro only scored four goals themselves in the half, but their first half cushion was able to propel them to victory over Chatham by a final of 12-5.

In addition to Guaglione's first half goal, four other Cougars registered goals on the day. Junior Dillon Dugan sophomores Quinn Clarke and Andrew Mattingly and first year Tyler McAnany all were credited with scoring goals in the Cougars third loss of the season.

The Cougars are back on the road as they continue their road trip down south with a matchup against Virginia Wesleyan University on Saturday, March 7th at 1 PM.
