MARIETTA, Ohio - March 11, 2020 - Chatham (2-4, 0-0) continued their road travels with an away matchup against Marietta (3-3, 0-0) on Wednesday, March 11th. The Cougars came into the game riding a four game losing streak, recently falling to Virginia Wesleyan 15-7.
The Cougars were the first ones to get things rolling as they scored the game's first goal in under a minute off of a shot from sophomore Michael Porreca. Moments later, Marietta would answer with a score of their own to tie the game at 1-1 early in the first quarter. Chatham would hold a one goal lead heading into the second quarter after junior Kyle Prewitt netted the third goal of the day for the Cougars.
Marietta opened the second quarter with two quick back to back goals to take their first lead of the game 4-3. The Cougars came right back with three unanswered goals to regain the lead 6-4 with the final minutes of the half ticking away. Marietta tacked on one more goal before the end of the half to make the score 6-5 going into halftime.
Chatham continued to scorch the net in the opening minutes of the second half, putting together two straight goals to give them an 8-5 lead. Marietta followed Chatham's three goals with a goal of their own but it proved to be their last of the quarter. The Cougars scored three more goals to balloon their lead to five putting them ahead of Marietta 11-6 going into the fourth.
The final quarter turned into a shootout between both teams with each side scoring four goals in the quarter. Chatham scored a goal in the opening seconds of the fourth, but Marietta quickly added a goal of their own to put the score at 12-7. In the proceeding minutes, Chatham added two more goals to Marietta's one to make it 14-8 with 6:12 left to play. The Cougars ultimately topped Marietta in a 15-10 final for their third win of the season.
Both Porreca and Prewitt lead the team with three goals each while sophomore Andrew Mattingly and juniors Dillon Dugan and Jerad Wilson added two goals a piece to the win.
The Cougars are back on the turf Saturday, March 21st as they will travel to Buffalo, NY to take on Medaille College.
