PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – Feb. 16, 2019 – For the second time this season, the Chatham University men's hockey team defeated Elmira College. The Cougars earned a 4-2 victory over the Soaring Eagles on the road this evening. With the win, Chatham wraps up the 2018-19 season at 6-17-2 overall and 4-13-1 in conference. With the loss tonight, Elmira finishes second in the UCHC with a 14-9-2 overall and 12-4-2 UCHC.
SCORING SUMMARY: The first period was quiet for both Chatham and Elmira.
The Cougars were first to find the back of the net early in the second period.
Derek Schrank scored at 1:26, thanks to assists from
Liam Gentile and
Dan Bellafiore.
Kirk Underwood netted a shorthanded goal at 16:10 in the second period, off assists from
Chris Lutz and
Derek Schrank.
The Cougars increased their lead to three at 9:03 in the third period when
Chris Lutz scored off an assist from
Andrew Breda.
The Soaring Eagles would finally find the back of the net on their senior night with less than five minutes remaining in the game on a power play.
Kirk Underwood answered back with his second goal of the night just six seconds later, thanks to assist from
Chad Bell.
Elmira would score one more time, to cut the Cougar lead to two.
GOALTENDING: Matt Calas earned the win in the net for Chatham this evening. Calas recorded 53 saves, including 25 in the third period.
SHOTS LEADER: Dan Bellafiore led the team with five shots.
Kirk Underwood picked up four shots.
Michael Lamison and
Chris Lutz each took three shots.
FACE-OFFS: Cory King won eight draws in the face-off circle.
