The Cougars (3-0) returned to action Friday, November 8th against the Tartans of Carnegie Mellon University in a crosstown rivalry. Chatham was riding a three game winning streak heading into the match, most recently defeating Hobart College 5-4.
Chatham jumped out ahead first, with two straight dominating victories by first years Abdul Malik Khan and Mohammed Sadek by scores of 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 and 11-0, 11-1 and 11-1 respectively. The Cougars would continue to dominate the match adding two more set victories by sophomore Vinicius Muniz and first year Cristopher Tejada.
With a commanding 5-0 lead over the Tartans, Chatham would continue to take control of the match with four more wins to defeat Carnegie Mellon 9-1. Senior Captains Zane Porterfield and Drew Brannon would notch their first career wins by scores of 11-2, 11-5, 11-5 and 11-5, 11-5, and 11-5 respectively. Senior Jeff Duclose would also record his first victory as a Cougar 11-8, 11-5 and 11-3. First years Mohammed Sadek and Alaaeldin Abdelkhalik Goma dominated in their matches, as they would each only allow 2 points in their respective sets.
Chatham squash is back on the courts Saturday, November 9th at 1 PM against another city rival, University of Pittsburgh. The Cougars will look to extend their winning streak to five games entering Saturday's match against the Panthers.
