Janiga Scores in Tough 2-1 Loss at Manhattanville

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Jan. 13, 2018 – Senior forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y./Buffalo Stars) scored the opening goal in Saturday's game, but the Chatham women's hockey team fell at Manhattanville 2-1 in UCHC action.
 
RECORDS: With the defeat, Chatham falls 3-10-2 (0-8-0 UCHC) while the Manhattanville Valiants improve to 7-5-1 (4-2-0 UCHC).
 
WHAT'S NEXT: Chatham will prepare to host UCHC foe Stevenson from Jan. 19-20.
 
SCORING SUMMARY: With just 11 seconds remaining in the opening period, Janiga found the back of the net, to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead, thanks to an assist from junior forward Kristina Block (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy).
 
Following a scoreless second session, the Valiants tied the game up at 14:29 and claimed the lead on a short-handed tally at 14:53.
 
Despite pulling the goalie near the end of regulation, the Cougars could not record the equalizer.
 
GOALTENDING: Sophomore netminder Devon Strachan (West Chester, Pa./Lawrenceville) suffered the defeat, making 24 stops in between the pipes.
 
SHOTS LEADER: Janiga paced the Cougar attack with five shots on goal.
 
FACEOFFS: Junior forward Kirajean Frost (Harvard, Mass./Boston Shamrocks) led Chatham with 10 faceoff wins.
