Strong second half pushes Cougars passed Bobcats

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – SEPTEMBER 6th, 2017 – A strong second half pushed the Chatham Cougars passed Pitt-Greensburg to give them the 3-1 win over the Bobcats.
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (2-1) Pitt-Greensburg (1-1-1)
  • Location: Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.  
 
How it happened
  • The Bobcats were first on the board with a goal at 29:03 and would maintain the lead going into the second half.
  • Unable to hit the back of the net in the first 45 minutes, the Cougars still outshot their opponent 12-3.
  • Two and a half minutes into the second half, first year Darby Robinson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) connected on a shot from sophomore Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) to score the first goal for Chatham.
  • Shortly after, Vernail would make a goal of her own assisted by first year Genevieve Zeswitz (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison).
  • Senior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) scored the final goal of the game with five minutes remaining.
  • The Cougars outshot the Bobcats 10-2 in the second half.
  • Robinson led the team in shots with six.
  • Vernail and junior Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison) each tallied four shots.
 
In the goal
  • First Year Ashley Bergman (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) was in the net for the entire game for the Cougars. She faced five shots with one goal against.
 
Up next
  • Chatham hosts Hilbert on Saturday, September 9th for the team's annual alumni game at 2 pm.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
