Chatham Extends Winning Streak to Four

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – SEPTEMBER 12th, 2017 – The Chatham Cougars extended their winning streak to four in a 4-1 win over the Penn St Altoona Lions.
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (4-1) Penn St Altoona (1-3)
  • Location: Altoona, Pa.  
 
How it happened
  • The first half of the game would remain scoreless with the Cougars outshooting the Lions 12-1.
  • Senior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) scored the first goal just two minutes into the second half after taking the ball down the middle from sophomore Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) and beating the keeper from ten yards out.   
  • Ten minutes later Vernail would get a goal for herself. She took a pass from sophomore Tina Lett (Fredricksburg, Va./Courtland) just outside the box and dribbled in to score from five yards out.
  • Penn St Altoona would score at 63:26.
  • Chatham would answer back with a goal by first year Darby Robinson (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) off of her own corner kick that she bent into the net.
  • Junior Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison) netted the final goal for the Cougars.
  • Chatham dominated the game by outshooting their opponent 25-2.
  • The Cougars took eight corner kicks to the Lions zero.
  • Sieg and Bruening led the team in shots with six apiece. Vernail tallied four.
 
In the goal
  • Sophomore Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was in the net for Chatham.
  • Burdelski didn't have to make a single save thanks to the strong defensive line for the Cougars.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
