PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Dec. 9, 2017 – First-year forward
Chris Lutz (Curtice, Ohio/Soo Eagles) tallied both goals as the Chatham University men's hockey team earned its first win in program history on Saturday night, defeating visiting King's (Pa.) 2-1 in UCHC action at Frozen Pond Arena.
RECORDS: Chatham moves to 1-7-2, 1-6-0 UCHC while the Monarchs fall to 0-12-0, 0-8-0 UCHC.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will travel to Trine from Dec. 15-16 before enjoying the holiday break.
SCORING SUMMARY: Lutz found the back of the net off a feed from first-year forward
Kevin Fees (Findlay, Ohio/Wichita Falls) in the first period before King's knotted the contest up at 1-1 on a short-handed goal with less than a minute remaining in the opening frame.
Lutz tallied his second of the night and third goal in the past two days, off another assist by Fees, this time in the second period.
Leading 2-1 in the third, Chatham held off the extra-man attack by King's when the Monarchs pulled the goalie to seal the first win in program history, as well as first-year head coach Mike Callan's first-career victory.
GOALTENDING: First-year netminder
Matt Calas (Mississauga, Ont./Ancaster Avalanche) played stout in goal, making 27 stops, including 14 in the third, to pick up his first win.
SHOTS LEADER: Lutz led the Cougar attack with six shots.
FACEOFFS: First-year
Daniel Cangelosi (Rockaway, N.J./New England Wolves) won a team-high eight draws.
