Women’s Hockey Drops to No. 2 Elmira 11-2

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Dec. 2, 2017 – Senior defender Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Minnesota Blades) notched both goals for the Chatham University women's hockey team on Saturday, but the Cougars fell to No. 2 Elmira 11-2 at Alpha Ice Complex.
 
RECORDS: Chatham falls to 3-7, 0-6 UCHC while the Soaring Eagles remain unscathed at 9-0, 6-0 UCHC.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will hit the road, playing at Aurora on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 3 pm CDT.
 
SCORING SUMMARY: Elmira jumped out to an 8-0 before Petersen got the Cougars on the scoreboard, blasting a slap shot directly off the faceoff for Chatham's first goal, thanks to an assist from junior forward Kristina Block (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy).
 
Trailing 11-1 in the waning seconds of the game, Petersen tallied her second goal of the day, off an assist from senior forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, Ont./Saugeen-Mailland Lightning).
 
GOALTENDING: Sophomore Devon Strachan (West Chester, Pa./Lawrenceville) suffered the defeat, making nine saves in the start. First-year Taylor Schwandt (West Chester, Pa./Northern Cyclones) made eight stops while senior Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, Ont./Thunder Bay Queens) played the final 32:29, tallying 16 saves including 13 in the third.
 
SHOTS LEADER: Petersen led the Chatham attack with four shots.
 
FACEOFFS: Colhoun won a team-high 10 draws.

About Chatham Athletics 

Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and offers nine Division III women's sports and seven men's sports. Chatham added two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse, as well as men's squash, starting in 2018-19.
