Women's Hockey Falls 5-3 at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – Nov. 18, 2017 – The Chatham University women's hockey team dropped a 5-3 decision at UCHC opponent William Smith on Saturday evening.

RECORDS: With the loss, the Cougars fall to 1-4-0, 0-3-0 UCHC while the Herons improve to 4-0-1, 2-0-1 UCHC.

WHAT'S NEXT: Both teams will square off tomorrow in the weekend finale, with the puck dropping at 4 pm.

SCORING SUMMARY: The Herons struck first in the opening period before senior defender Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Minnesota Blades) tallied the equalizer on the power play at 5:27 in the first.

William Smith reclaimed the lead, 2-1, later in the period before senior forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, Ont./Saugeen-Mailland Lightning) found the back of the net, off an assist from Petersen, to tie the contest at 2-2.

With the goal, Colhoun is now tied for the most goals in program history with Erika Martin (26).

The Herons scored the lone goal in the second period before junior forward Kirajean Frost (Harvard, Mass./Boston Shamrocks) tied the game up at 3-3 on a power play score less than five minutes into the third, thanks to another feed from Petersen.

Petersen, who has 27 assists in her career, is now three assists away from tying Erika Bronk's program mark of 30 career helpers.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, the Herons followed by scoring two unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.

Overall, the Herons outshot Chatham 41-24 as senior forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y./Buffalo Stars) led the team with six shots.

GOALTENDING: Sophomore netminder Devon Strachan (West Chester, Pa./Lawrenceville) suffered the loss against her former team, making 36 saves overall, including 20 stops in the second period.

FACEOFFS: Colhoun led all player with 20 wins in the faceoff circle.
