Cougars Defeat Barons 56-23 in Home Opener

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA. – NOVEMBER 15th, 2017 – The Chatham University Women's Basketball team hosted the Barons of Franciscan this evening in the season opener. The Cougars defeated the Barons 56-23.  
 
KEY COUGARS: Four Cougars scored in double digits to lead Chatham to victory. Junior Katie Sieg was the top scorer for the team with 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sophomores Sierra Ungerman and Maggie Soeder each finished with 14 points. Ungerman recorded 12 rebounds, two assists and three steals. Soeder went 8-10 from the free throw line with nine rebounds and one assist. Junior Olivia Barkley tallied ten points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists in her debut with the Cougars. Junior Ashley McClain finished with five rebounds, five steals and three assists.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The first quarter started slow with neither team able to score in the first five minutes. By the second quarter, Chatham took control of the game going on an 18 point scoring streak. At the half, the Cougars led 27-11. The third quarter scoring put Chatham ahead of Franciscan by 24 points. The Barons were held to scoring just three points in the entire fourth quarter thanks to Chatham's defense while the Cougars increased their lead to 33. Chatham earned 26 points off of 42 forced Franciscan turnovers. The bench tallied 14 points for the Cougars.  
 
WHAT'S NEXT: This weekend Chatham travels to Westminster, Md. to compete in the McDaniel College Tipoff starting with their first game against the host team at 6 pm on November 17th.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
