Chatham opens up 2017-18 season with a 74-47 win over Franciscan

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – NOVEMBER 15th, 2017 – The Chatham University Men's Basketball team defeated the Barons of Franciscan 74-47 in the season opener.

KEY PLAYERS: Four Cougars scored in double digits to help Chatham to victory. Juniors Isaiah Brown and Alex Schoppen each tallied 16 points. Brown recorded three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Schoppen went 6-8 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Junior Anthony Bomar finished with 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals. Junior Will Sandherr tallied 12 points for the Cougars, shooting 100% from the free throw line. Sandherr added four steals. Junior Logan Hunter grabbed five rebounds, one assist and one steal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Cougars started off strong in the first half making 73% of their three point shots and shooting 53% from the field. Chatham scored 26 points of off 24 forced Franciscan turnovers. The bench added 27 points for the Cougars.

WHAT'S NEXT: This weekend Chatham travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on Capital in a non-conference matchup on November 18th at 3 pm.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five men's sports competing this academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
