PITTSBURGH, PA. – Nov. 11, 2017 – Looking to split the weekend series with the visiting Utica Pioneers, the Chatham University women's ice hockey team fell just short on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 5-4 UCHC decision at Alpha Ice Complex.
RECORDS: With the loss, Chatham falls to 1-3-0, 0-2-0 UCHC while the Pioneers improve to 4-2-0, 2-0-0 UCHC.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will travel to Geneva, N.Y. to face William Smith in UCHC action on Nov. 18-19.
SCORING SUMMARY: After falling behind 1-0 after the first period, the Cougars knotted the contest up at 1-1, thanks to junior forward
Kristina Block (Scarborough, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), who took a feed from senior defender
Kasandra Petersen (Faribault, Minn./Minnesota Blades) and went top shelf just 1:06 into the second stanza.
Following a Pioneers power-play goal, Chatham once again tied the game up at 2-2 as first-year forward
Sydney Collins (Wake Forest, N.C./Northwood Prep) found the back of the net for her first-career goal at 18:21, off assists from Petersen and first-year defender
Allison Stathakis (Northville, Mich./Culver Academy).
Utica tacked on two more goals to claim a 4-2 advantage before senior forward
Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y./Buffalo Stars) enjoyed a goal at 9:37 off a feed from senior forward
Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, Ont./Saugeen-Mailland Lightning).
Trailing 5-3, Colhoun knocked in a power play goal with 36 ticks left off feeds from Stathakis and Petersen to complete the scoring.
Colhoun now needs one goal to tie the program's all-time goal scoring record.
GOALTENDING: Making her first career start, first-year
Devon Strachan (West Chester, Pa./Lawrenceville) made 40 stops in between the pipes, including 21 saves in the third period.
FACEOFFS: Colhoun won a team-high 15 draws in the circle.
