BETHANY, W.V. – Oct. 10, 2017 – For the third time in less than a week, the Chatham University women's volleyball program battled back and won a five-set match, this time defeating Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany 3-2 (18-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-20, 15-13) on the road on Tuesday night.
COMEBACK COUGARS: Trailing 2-1, the Cougars remained resilient and came from behind to take set four, 25-20, and set five, 15-13. Chatham trailed Geneva 2-0 on Oct. 4 and trailed Capital 2-1 on Oct. 7 but rallied for the victories as well.
RECORDS: Chatham improves to 11-8, 3-8 PAC while Bethany moves to 16-8, 9-3 PAC. The teams have split the regular season series, 1-1, with both teams prevailing on the road.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Cougars will head to PAC foe Waynesburg (1-17, 0-11 PAC) on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 12 pm before returning home to host Thiel (8-13, 2-8 PAC) on Monday, Oct. 16 at 7 pm.
LEADING THE ATTACK: Sophomore outside hitter
Justyne Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) led the Cougars with a 16-kill performance (.280) to go along with 13 digs, three aces and one block assist.
Both junior middle blocker
Mckenzie Bonnett (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) and sophomore outside hitter
Belen Brown (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) tallied eight kills for the attack.
DISTRIBUTION LINE: Sophomore setter
Mckenzie Bates (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) paced the Cougars with 22 assists and nine digs while sophomore setter
Brooke Petrillo (Derry, Pa./Derrry Area) enjoyed 15 helpers and eight digs.
BACK ROW PLAY: Sophomore libero
Sydney Stevens (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) led the defense with 27 digs.
