Final surge pushes Cougars past Titans in OT

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – JANUARY 25th, 2017 – A final 15 minute surge would push the Chatham Cougars past the Westminster Titans.  
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (10-7 overall, 5-6 PAC) Westminster (7-11 overall, 2-9 PAC)
  • Location: Athletics and Fitness Center at Chatham University.
 
Key Players
  • With 19 points, sophomore Katelyn Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) would lead the Cougars in scoring. Sieg added five rebounds, five assists and four steals.  
  • Sophomore Ashley McClain (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) would go 11-13 from the charity stripe and finish with 13 points for the evening. McClain chipped in six rebounds and three steals.  
  • Senior Jesse Hinkle (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
  • Sophomore Maggie Soeder (Shaler, Pa./Shaler) led the team in rebounds with 12 total. Soeder tabbed eight points.  
 
Inside the numbers
  • The Cougars would get off to a rough start down 30-23 at the end of two quarters.
  • Heading into the fourth quarter Chatham was down 47-39.
  • A fourth quarter surge would push the Cougars to 55 tying the Titans and forcing an overtime.
  • The fourth quarter saw three lead changes and five tied scores in ten minutes.
  • In overtime Chatham dominated scoring 12 points to Westminster's six.
  • A strong Cougar defense would have the Titans shooting at just 18% in overtime.
  • The bench tallied 19 points for the team.
  • The Cougars would score 25 points off of 28 forced Titan turnovers.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
