Chatham Dominates, but Ties To End Weekend

Cougars Out-shoot Eastern Mennonite 23-8 In Tie

Box Score ARLINGTON, VA (Sept. 3) - Chatham once again dominated in Arlington, VA, but just couldn't get a second goal in the net, as it tied Eastern Mennonite University 1-1, ending the weekend trip successfully, going 1-0-1.

The Cougars didn't score quite as early as it did yesterday against Emory & Henry, but did manage to notch its lone goal 20:10 into the first half, when freshman Victoria Vernail, from just about an hour away from Arlington, made the most of her trip back to her home state, netting her first collegiate goal, unassisted, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.

The Cougars' lead held through halftime, but at 83:24, Eastern Mennonite sneaked a goal past freshman Elayna Burdelski, tying the game 1-1, and the score ultimately ended at 1-1.

Burdelski played well, allowing the lone goal, while saving two-of-three Eastern Mennonite shots. Chatham on the otherhand, put 15 shots on goal against both Eastern Mennonite goalkeepers, but couldn't get the winning goal past.

Not only did Chatham outshoot Eastern Mennonite 28-8 overall and 15-3 on goal, but also had 14 corner kicks compared to Eastern Mennonite's two.

Despite the tie, head coach Betsy Warren was happy with the weekend overall saying after the game, "Overall it was a great start to our season and we learned a lot about ourselves as a team this weekend."

Chatham is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m, against Pitt-Greensburg, at Highmark Stadium.
