Katelyn Sieg opened the scoring in the first half and junior
Megan Sieg netted a hat-trick in the first half, leading the Cougars to a decisive 4-0 shutout against Emory & Henry to open the season.
It took just 2:14 for the Chatham Cougars to open the scoring in its 2016 campaign when
Megan Sieg's corner kick connected with
Katelyn Sieg to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead and
Katelyn Sieg her first goal of the year.
At the 19:35 mark,
Megan Sieg added her first goal of 2016, unassisted on a breakaway to make the score 2-0.
Megan Sieg added two more goals, first, at 23:48, assisted by freshman
Emily Nolan to make it 3-0 and at the 26:33 mark, again unassisted, to make it 4-0, which held as the final score.
Megan Sieg ended the evening with three goals and an assist, while
Katelyn Sieg ended with one goal and Nolan an assist.
Both Chatham goalkeepers, sophomore
Emmory Tardivo and freshman
Elayna Burdelski, saw a half of playing time each, but neither had to do any work as the Cougars defense did not allow a single shot in the game.
Head coach
Betsy Warren after the game said, "I was really pleased with the team effort and performance in our first outing. I'm looking forward to seeing how they step-up their game tomorrow now that they seem to have some confidence and a better comfort level with each other out on the field."
As mentioned in coach Warren's quote, the Cougars take the field tomorrow afternoon at either noon or 2:30 p.m. against Eastern Mennonite University at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.
