Cougars Suffer First Loss of the Season

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa - SEPTEMBER 10th, 2016 – The Chatham Cougars took on the Hilbert College Hawks this afternoon and suffered their first loss of the season with a final score of 2-1.

The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (2-1-1 overall) Hilbert (2-2 overall)
  • Location: Hawk Field in Hamburg, NY.  

How it happened
  • Chatham dominated the game and outshot Hilbert 30-8 but just couldn't finish.
  • The Hawks scored in the final minute of the game when the Cougars were caught pressing forward for a goal and the Hawks got a break away.
  • Sophomore Katherine Luteri (Somerset, Pa./Somerset High School) scored the Cougars only goal off of her own corner kick in the first half of the game.
  • Sophomore Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic High School) led the team in shots with five, three of those on frame.
  • Sophomore Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison High School) added four shots.
  • Luteri, First Year Emily Nolan (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny), Sophomore Kassianna Politis (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township High School), and First Year Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley High School) each chipped in three shots a piece.

In the goal
  • First Year Elayna Burdelski started for the Cougars and played the entire first half recording three saves.
  • Sophomore Emmory Tardivo came into the action for the second half making one save.

Coach's Comments
  • Head Coach Betsy Warren said "Hopefully this game was an eye opener for the team. We can dominate games but we have to have to turn our shots into actual goals and start putting teams away."

Up next
  • Chatham hosts its first home game of the season on September 13th at 4 pm at Varsity Field.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
