Chatham Tops SUNY Potsdam 2-1; Split Weekend Series

Box Score POTSDAM, NY - FEBRUARY 13th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Women's Ice Hockey team had a big win yesterday as they beat the SUNY Potsdam Bears 2-1 to split the weekend series. Chatham improved to an overall record of 7-14-1, and are now 3-12-1 in the ECAC-West Conference.

The Cougars jumped on the Bears early in the first period when Junior Forward Jenny Jones (Kernersville, N.C. / Anaheim Lady Ducks) found the back of the net just 5 minutes into the game. The goal by Jones was assisted by Sophomore Forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardina, ONT / Saugeen-Mailland Lightning) and Junior Defensemen Kaitlyn Perrins (Calgary, ALB / JWHL Notre Dame Hounds).

No team would be able to score in the second period, but Chatham would score 8 minutes into the third period when Senior Forward Katrina Hawkins (Powell River, BC / North Island Extreme) would make the score 2-0 by beating the Potsdam goaltender. The Hawkins goal was set up once again by Kaitlyn Perrins. The SUNY Potsdam Bears would score their only goal of the game a few minutes later, but could not find a way to even the score.

Chatham Sophomore Goaltender Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, ONT / Thunder Bay Queens) would face 31 Potsdam shots in the game, and save 30 of them. Isbell would save 14 shots alone in the 3rd period.

There would be 5 total penalties recorded in the game, but no team could take advantage in scoring on a power play opportunity.

The Chatham Women's Ice Hockey team will return to the ice next weekend when they travel to Neumann University to take on the Knights in what will be the final two games of the 2015-2016 season. The first game will be on Friday, February 19th at 4:00 PM.
