Cougars Lose In Final Seconds To Wolverines; 56-55

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA. – FEBRUARY 10th, 2016 -- The Chatham University Women's Basketball team hosted the Grove City College Wolverines tonight in a conference match up. The Cougars fell to the Wolverines in the final five seconds of the game with a final score of 56-55.

First Year Katelyn Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Serra Catholic) continued her solid play leading the Cougars in scoring finishing the game with 15 points. Sieg also had 5 rebounds and 3 steals as well and she went 4-4 from the free throw line. Two other Cougars finished the game in double digits. First Year Lynnae Whitehead (Canfield, Ohio / Canfield) scored 12 points and First Year Ashley McClain (Hollidaysburg, Pa. / Hollidaysburg) chipped in 11.

Junior Jesse Hinkle (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) led the team in rebounds pulling down 9 total (4 offensive, 5 defensive). First Year Maggie Soeder (Shaler, Pa. / Shaler) grabbed 7 rebounds (6 offensive, 1 defensive). The Cougars were able to keep multiple possessions alive tonight, and would score 15 points off of second chance opportunities.

After going ahead early in the first period, Chatham was able to stay ahead for the rest of the first period until Grove City tied the score with five seconds left. In the start of the second period, Grove City grabbed the lead and went into halftime ahead 28-23. Halfway through the third period, a three pointer by First Year Ashley McClain would put Chatham ahead. Chatham would hold onto the lead going into the final ten minutes of action. The Cougars fought hard and were able to maintain the lead until a pair of Wolverine free throws gave Grove City the edge. First Year Katelyn Sieg would make a jumper, putting Chatham up by one with 1:23 left in the game. Unfortunately, with five seconds left in the game Grove City would make a final jumper ending the game 56-55.

The Cougars are back on the court this Saturday February 13th when they travel to Beaver Falls, Pa. to take on the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
