Brown buzzer beater lifts Cougars to victory

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – DECEMBER 7th, 2016 – A final second jumper by Brown would push the Cougars to victory against Penn State New Kensington with a final score 78-77.

  • A strong Cougar effort led by the starters would push Chatham past Penn State New Kensington this evening.
  • Sophomore guard Isaiah Brown (Scott, Ark./North Pulaski) and sophomore guard Alex Schoppen (Gibsonia, Pa./Central Catholic) led the Cougars in scoring grabbing 17 baskets apiece.
  • On top of the game winning shot, Brown went 7-10 in the field with three rebounds and five assists.
  • Sophomore point guard Nasir Alexander (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) recorded 12 points and four rebounds.
  • Junior guard Logan Hunter (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) finished with 11 points and two rebounds.
  • Sophomore point guard Anthony Bomar (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was an all-around help for the Cougars earning an impressive 13 rebounds, seven points, seven assists and seven steals.
  • Sophomore Josh Randall (Mckees Rock, Pa./Montour) also tabbed seven points.
  • Junior Reggie Rogers (Sweet Home, Ark./ Wilbur D. Mills University Studies) was close behind with six points.
 
Inside the numbers
  • The Cougars were off to a quick start, leading PSUNK 13-2 five minutes into the game. Penn State New Kensington would gain some momentum but Chatham still controlled the game heading into the second half with a score of 39-30.
  • Five minutes into the second half the Cougars would lead by 18 points. Penn State New Kensington narrowed the lead to just two points with two minutes remaining in regulation.
  • PSUNK took the lead for the final time with five second remaining. In a last stitch effort, Chatham would get the ball down the court to Brown just in time for him to score.
  • Chatham scored 12 points on fast breaks
  • The Cougars scored 18 points off of 17 forced Penn State New Kensington turnovers.
  • Chatham had 10 second chance points on offensive rebounds.
