Cougars Compete at Puerto Rico Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PITTSBURGH, Pa – DECEMBER 22nd, 2016 – The men's basketball team competed in the Puerto Rico College Sports Tours Tournament this past week where they went 1-1, defeating Albright College before falling to Illinois College.  
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (4-6) Albright (5-5) Illinois (3-6)
  • Location: Mario Morales Coliseum in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
 
GAME 1 Chatham 70 Albright 68
Key Players
  • Three starters would all post 13 points to lead the Cougars to victory.
  • Sophomore Nasir Alexander finished with 13 points going 4-5 from beyond the arc. He would add three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Sophomore Josh Randall recorded 13 points going 5-9 from the field and shooting 100% from the free throw line. He would chip in two rebounds and three assists.
  • Sophomore Alex Schoppen earned 13 points shooting 5-8 from the field with two assists.
  • Sophomore Anthony Bomar led the team in rebounds with seven. He also contributed nine points and four assists.
  • Sophomore Andrew Guanci went 3-3 from beyond the arc finishing with nine points.
 
Inside the numbers
  • The Cougars shot 55% from the three point line.  
  • At the end of the first half Chatham led 41-30.  
  • Even against a strong second half from Albright, the team was able to maintain their lead.
  • The bench would score 17 points for Chatham.
  • The Cougars scored 16 points off of turnovers and had nine second chance points.
 
GAME 2 Illinois 87 Chatham 65
Key Players
  • Leading the Cougars in scoring was Bomar with 16 points. He also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Randall went 7-7 from the free throw line finishing with 14 points for the Cougars.
  • Alexander posted 10 points and two steals.
  • Junior Logan Hunter would chip in eight points and five rebounds.
  • Guanci would earn two more three pointers along with one rebound and one steal.
 
Inside the numbers
  • The team shot 100% from the line in the first half.
  • The Chatham bench scored 12 points.

  • The Cougars host PAC opponent Thomas More on January 3rd at 8 pm.
