Cougars Down Barons in Season Opener

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – NOVEMBER 15th, 2016 – The women's basketball team started off the 2016-17 season strong with a 71-58 win at Franciscan.
 
The Basics

  • Location: Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
 
Key Players
  • The Cougars got off to a quick start leading the Barons 39-21 at the half.
  • Sophomore Katelyn Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) led Chatham with 12 points. She went 5-7 in the paint and 2-2 from the free throw line. She also added in two steals and a block.
  • Junior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) and sophomore Ashley McClain (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area Senior) were close behind with 11 points apiece. Sieg chipped in four rebounds, five assists and three steals. McClain had three rebounds and two steals.
  • Senior Jesse Hinkle (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) went 2-3 in the paint and 4-5 from the free throw line for eight points total.
 
Inside the numbers
  • Chatham shot 51% from the field and 77% from the free throw line.
  • The Cougars scored 28 points off of 25 forced Baron turnovers.
  • The bench scored 26 points for the team.
  • Once the Cougars took the lead at the end of the first period, Franciscan was unable to catch up.
 
Up next
  • This weekend Chatham is headed to Baltimore, Md. for the Notre Dame University of Maryland Tournament. Their first game is Friday at 8 pm against Southern Virginia. The Cougars will play again Saturday at 1 or 3 pm.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
