Chatham Shines in Season Opener

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – NOVEMBER 15th, 2016 – The men's basketball team won their season opener 77-64 at Franciscan.

  • Records: Chatham (1-0) Franciscan (0-1)
  • Location: Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
 
Key Players
  • Sophomore Alex Schoppen (Gibsonia, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and sophomore Isaiah Brown (Scott, Ark./North Pulaski) led the Cougars in scoring with 12 points apiece. Brown grabbed six rebounds and one steal.
  • Sophomore Anthony Bomar (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), sophomore Josh Randall (Mckees Rock, Pa./Montour) and junior Reginald Rogers (Sweet Home, Ark./Wilbur D. Mills University Studies) added ten points each. Bomar went 4-5 in the paint with two rebounds. Randall recorded five rebounds and three steals. Rogers went 4-5 from the free throw line with two rebounds and one steal.
  • Sophomore Nasir Alexander (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) and sophomore Ian Schrenk (Bellevue, Pa./Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) both chipped in seven points. Alexander led the team with three assists. Schrenk went 3-3 in the paint and 1-1 from beyond the arc, adding four rebounds.
  • Sophomore Devin Stedman (Port Royal, S.C./Beaufort) led the team with eight rebounds.
 
Inside the numbers
  • The Cougars got off to a quick start leading the Barons 39-26 at the half.
  • Chatham shot 72% from the free throw line.
  • The Cougars scored 19 points off of 15 forced Baron turnovers.
  • The bench scored 32 points for the team.
  • Once Chatham took the lead early in the first half, Franciscan was unable to keep up with the Cougar momentum.
 
Up next
  • The Cougars host their home-opener on Friday November 18th against Capital University. On Saturday, Chatham travels to Saint Francis University.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
