Cougars Fall to #4 Saints

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – OCTOBER 5th, 2016 – The Chatham Cougars fell to the Thomas More Saints 2-0.  
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (2-1 PAC, 7-2-2 overall) Thomas More (3-0 PAC, 12-0-1 overall)
  • Location: Varsity Field at Chatham University    
 
On the field
  • For the first time this season the Cougars were outshot 19-6. Chatham was relentless though and refused to back down the entire 90 minutes.   
  • Sophomore Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison HS) led the Cougars in shots with three.
  • Senior Skylar Benjamin (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville HS), First Year Kelsey Calamaro (Davie, Fla/The Sagemont School) and Sophomore Morgan Stamm (Mt. Holy Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs HS) all chipped in one shot. Calamaro's header just barely missed the net in the second half.
 
In the goal
  • First Year Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) played the entire 90 minutes. Burdelski faced 13 shots on goal, saving 11 of them.
 
Coach's Comments
  • Head Coach Betsy Warren said "I am really proud of the team's performance today and seeing them step up to compete against a top notch program."
 
Up next
  • The Cougars are back in action on Wednesday October 12th at 8 pm when they host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes. Geneva is currently 0-2 PAC, 3-6 overall.

Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and offers nine Division III women's sports and seven men's sports. Women's sports at Chatham include basketball, cross country, ice hockey, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track & field, and volleyball. Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
