Cougars Fall to Wolverines in Senior Game

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – OCTOBER 29th, 2016 – The Chatham Cougars took on the Grove City Wolverines for an incredible battle this afternoon. Grove City edged the Cougars 3-2.
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (6-3 PAC, 11-4-2 overall) Grove City (7-2 PAC, 14-4 overall)
  • Location: Varsity Field at Chatham University.      
 
How it happened
  • Grove City got three goals on the Cougars in the first half.
  • Chatham outshot Grove City 22-17.
  • At the start of the second half the Cougars took control of the game. The Cougars took 14 shots in the final 45 minutes.
  • Sophomore Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison) scored the first goal for Chatham with an assist Kelsey Calamaro (Davie, Fla./The Sagemont School).
  • Three minutes later, Junior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) got another one for the Cougars with an assist from Calamaro.
  • The Cougar offense forced seven corner kicks.
  • Sieg and Bruening led the Cougars in shots with four each.
  • Calamaro and First Year Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) had three shots a piece.
 
In the goal
  • Sophomore Emmory Tardivo (Isabella, Pa./Brownsville Area) started for Chatham. She made five saves with three goals against.
  • First Year Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) played the final 45 minutes for the Cougars. She made five saves with zero goals against.   
 
Senior Spotlight
  • Today marked Senior Skylar Benjamin's final regular season home game for the Chatham Cougars. Skylar has been an integral part of the Cougar team since she first stepped on the field her first year. She has started 59 out of 68 total games. Over her career she has played forward, midfield, and defense. Skylar has tallied 18 goals, 174 shots and 12 assists. She holds the record for goals in a game with four as well as the record for most assists in a game with three. She has been the SAAC President for the past two years and is a Cougar Peer Leader as part of the NCAA Choices Grant program. Skylar will graduate this May with a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. She is currently applying to graduate schools where she plans on pursuing a career in physical therapy. Thank you Skylar from everyone here at Chatham for a great four years!

  • This match marked the final game for the 2016 regular season. The Cougars still have a chance for the PAC Playoffs, but their fate rests in the Westminster/Waynesburg game. Updates to follow.

Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
