Chatham Holds off Geneva, 1-0

Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa – OCTOBER 12th, 2016 – The Chatham Cougars defeated the Geneva Golden Tornadoes in double overtime this evening.   
 
The Basics
  • Records: Chatham (3-1 PAC, 8-2-2 overall) Geneva (0-4 PAC, 3-8-0)
  • Location: Ellis Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.     
 
How it happened
  • The Cougars outshot their opponent 28-10.
  • 17 shots were taken in the second half alone but Chatham wasn't able to hit the back of the net until double overtime.
  • Junior Megan Sieg (Pittsburgh, Pa./Serra Catholic) scored the game winning goal in the 100th minute assisted by Sophomore Anne Radzanowski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley). This is Sieg's eighth goal of the season.
  • Senior Skylar Benjamin (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) led the Cougars with eight shots.
  • Sophomore Julie Bruening (Madison, Ohio/Madison), First Year Victoria Vernail (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley) and Sieg took five shots a piece.
 
In the goal
  • First Year Elayna Burdelski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) was in the goal for the Cougars. She made five saves for the shutout against Geneva.  
 
Up next
  • The Cougars are back in action on Saturday, October 15th when they travel to Thiel to take on the Tomcats at 2 pm.

Chatham will add women's lacrosse beginning play in 2017-2018. Chatham has added five new men's sports in the 2015-2016 academic year: baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming & diving, track & field. Chatham will add two more men's varsity sports beginning play in 2017-2018; ice hockey and lacrosse.
