Cougars Drop Game To Buffalo State

Box Score BUFFALO, NY - NOVEMBER 14, 2015 -The Chatham Cougars Women's Ice Hockey team fell in its first road contest of the 2015-16 campaign 4-1 to the host Buffalo State Bengals.

Things looked promising to start for the Cougars, as senior forward Erika Bronk (Fairport, N.Y. /  Rochester Edge) scored her first goal of the season when she redirected a shot by sophomore defenseman Emma McFarlane (Ottawa, ONT / Perth Predators) early in the first period to make it a 1-0 game.  Sophomore forward Cassidy Colhoun (Kincardine, ONT / Saugeen-Mailland Lightning) was also credited with an assist on the goal.

Unfortunately for Chatham, Buffalo State's goaltender Justine Silva was invincible after the early goal and would shut down the Cougars from there.

Buffalo State scored four unanswered goals after the early 1-0 deficit and was boosted by sophomore forward Erin Gehen who scored a hat trick.

Sophomore forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, N.Y. / Buffalo Stars), playing goalie in place of injured sophomore starting goalie Sydney Isbell (Thunder Bay, ONT / Thunder Bay Queens), was stellar in net for the Cougars in her first start at the position allowing only three goals on 33 shots.

Chatham will look to bounce back tomorrow and earn its first win of the season as it concludes its series with Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon. Puck drop is slated for 2 o'clock.
