Martin scores hat trick in win against SUNY Canton

Box Score Boston, Mass. – (1/03/2015) – The Chatham University hockey team evened their record in the Codfish Bowl by beating SUNY Canton 4-3. Sophomore forward Erika Martin (Fairbanks, AK) scored the team's first hat trick of the season today against the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton.
 
After a scoreless first period, Chatham scored twice in the second with one goal coming from the Chatham power play. Sophomore forward Erika Martin (Fairbanks, AK) scored the first of her three goals for the Cougars at (2:40), assisted by junior forward Erika Bronk and senior defender Brittany Yoisten.
 
Martin scored her second goal at (15:44) while on the power play assisted by sophomore defender Kaitlyn Perrins and Bronk (2), her second assist on the day.  Martin would find the net again in the third period at (2:37) assisted again by Perrins and Bronk (3). Martin's performance earned her a spot on the All Tournament Team. 
 
SUNY would score twice in the third period but the win was sealed when first year forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, NY) scored unassisted at (14:56). Senior goaltender Megan Buchanan (Stittsville, Ont.) gave up three goals on 40 shots in the game. The Cougars took 8 shots on 4 Power Play opportunities, with one goal.
 
Chatham will be back in action when they visit SUNY Canton again Friday January 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m.
