Cougars Tie Cortland At Home

Box Score Pittsburgh, PA. – (1/31/2015) – The Chatham University hockey team played a strong game this afternoon, hosting SUNY Cortland at the McKnight Hockey Center. The Cougars and Red Dragons skated to a 1-1 tie. The tie ends a five game skid the Cougars had been on over the past two weeks.

Chatham struck first, when junior forward Katrina Hawkins slipped the puck passed the Cortland goal tender midway through the first period (11:07). Sophomore forward McKenzie Haskins (Anchorage, AK) and first year forward Marissa Janiga (East Aurora, NY) assisted on the goal.

The Red Dragons would tie the game at (10:10) during the first of four power play opportunities, however Chatham played tough defense, never allowing another goal.  Sophomore forward Jenny Jones (Kernersville, NC) was impressive on face-offs, going 11 for 19, while Haskins went 8 for 13. In total Chatham went 33 for 61 on the day.

Senior goal tender Megan Buchanan (Stittsville, ON) kept the scoring at one goal, stopping 26 SUNY Cortland shots through 3 periods of play and overtime. The Cougars power play units took three shots on their two power play opportunities.

Chatham will return to the ice when they visit Utica College on Saturday February 7, 2015 for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
