Hinkle's Double-Double Leads Chatham Past Thiel

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA – Jesse Hinkle recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, and four Chatham players scored in double figures, as Chatham defeated Thiel College on Wednesday, 77-69. The Chatham win moved the two teams into a tie in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings at 2-7. Each squad also holds a 3-13 overall record.

Jessica Manfredi led the Cougars with 17 points, including a trio of three pointers. Emily Schmidt had 16 points on 7-14 shooting, and Anna Shashura netted 13 points. Dana Eastman also drained three treys, leading to nine points. On the season, 45 of Eastman's 50 points have come on threes.

Jaclyn Watkins led Thiel with a double-double, scoring 25 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Bethany Hines tallied 12 points.

Chatham shot 28-60 (46.7%) from the floor, while Thiel shot 26-62 (41.9%).

Thiel jumped out to an 11-3 lead just over five minutes into the game, but Chatham went on an 11-0 run to gain a 14-11 advantage with 10:45 to play. A Shashura layup put the Cougars up by six with 7:37 on the clock, but a 6-0 Tomcat spurt gave Thiel a 32-31 lead with three minutes left. At halftime, the game was deadlocked at 36.

Midway through the second half, Eastman capped an 8-1 Chatham run to give the Cougars a 50-41 advantage. That lead was cut to three with ten minutes to play, but Chatham regained a nine point lead, 67-58, with 3:15 remaining.

Thiel came within four at 70-66 with 46 seconds on the clock. A hectic final 46 seconds saw ten total free throws made, six fouls, and a technical foul on the Thiel bench.

Both teams relied heavily on points in the paint, as Thiel scored 36 and Chatham scored 34. Chatham's bench outscored Thiel's subs 40-16.

Chatham continues PAC play on Saturday, January 25, when they host Saint Vincent College. Tip-off in the AFC is set for 2:00pm.
