Hawkins' Hat Trick Propels Chatham to First ECAC-West Win Since 2010

Box Score PITTSBURGH, PA - Katrina Hawkins (Fy., Powell River, BC/North Island Extreme)recorded her first career hat trick to lead the Chatham University Ice Hockey team to their first ECAC-West victory of the season, a 4-2 decision over SUNY Potsdam. The victory marks the first conference win for the Cougars since a 4-3 win over Neumann University on February 20, 2010. 

Chatham moves to 4-17-0 on the season and 1-13-0 in ECAC-West play. Potsdam falls to 8-12-2 overall (4-8-1 ECAC-West). 

Hawkins found the back of the net twice in the first period, at the 11:36 and 17:46 marks. Casey Morfeld (Jr., Union City, CA/San Jose Jr. Sharks) gave the Cougars a 3-1 lead in the second period with a goal off an Erika Bronk (Fy., Fairport, NY/Rochester Edge) assist. Hawkins tallied her third goal of the game in the final period on a Chatham power play. 

Brittany Yoisten (So., Coldwater, ONT/Aurora Panthers)Katie Perrine (Fy., Menominee, MI/Wyoming Seminary), and Bronk each recorded one assist for Chatham. Hawkins led the Cougars with four shots, while Marie Soukup (Fy., Lake Bluff, IL/Team Illinois U19) and Morgan Becer (Jr., Ligonier, PA/Team Pittsburgh)each had two. 

Potsdam outshot Chatham 35-13 for the game. Chatham goaltender Megan Buchanan (So., Ottawa, ONT/Rideau St. Lawrence) recorded 33 saves. Each team was 1-3 on their power play. 

Chatham will wrap up conference play next weekend when they host ECAC-West opponent Neumann University. On Saturday, February 9, game time is set for 3:00pm. Sunday's game (February 10) will begin at 1:00pm.
