Chatham Announces Addition Of NCAA DIII Varsity Men's Ice Hockey Program

PITTSBURGH, PA. – MARCH 14th, 2016 -- Chatham University has announced the addition of men's ice hockey to its roster of NCAA Division III varsity sports for the 2017-18 academic year. At the time of this announcement, Chatham will be the first DIII men's ice hockey team in Pittsburgh and only the fourth program across the entire state when it takes the ice in 2017.

"In 1996, Chatham was the first college in Pennsylvania to put together an NCAA women's hockey team," said Athletic Director, Leonard Trevino. "We are excited to build on our proud hockey tradition and once again be the first to bring a DIII hockey team to the Pittsburgh region with the addition of men's ice hockey."

In December of 2015, Chatham announced the addition of men's and women's lacrosse. With the addition of these teams and men's ice hockey, Chatham will field 16 varsity DIII sports.

At the time of this release, a decision on the conference that the team will compete in was not final.  A search for a head coach begins immediately.
